What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a mental health treatment to help clients process and heal from trauma and distressing life events, as well as help them better understand themselves. You will follow a stimulus side-to-side while your therapist guides you through recounting difficult events/experiences. The eye movement will help desensitize the emotions attached to the memory making it easier to discuss, dissect, and diminish its triggering effects.

During EMDR therapy, you'll visually track a stimulus moving side-to-side as your therapist guides you through recalling distressing thoughts or experiences. This lateral eye movement is believed to help diminish negative emotions associated with the memory, making it easier to discuss, analyze, and neutralize its triggering effects.
